February, the shortest month of the year – this one a Leap Year – it is also the month of romance, love, and often times, expense – especially for those of whom purchase the candy, flowers, and jewelry that is associated with Valentine’s Day. Spending the designated day of love with someone special is a wonderful thought, and a most joyful time; but it may not be thought of in quite the same light if you’ve no special someone to spend it with. In this respect it becomes simply another ordinary day, such as it was for me, and I’m sure millions of others, but that does not mean it was not enjoyable. The weather of this February has certainly not been like those of years before, in-fact it has been exceptional by way of above normal temperatures, little, if any snow, which really does spark the want of spring, which is just around the corner.

I have had a very busy month. My newest romantic fiction drama, Willow’s Walk, was officially released online in early December 2015, but the official Niagara launch of the novel did not begin until February 1st., 2016. And it certainly began with a bang, finding Willow and me at the Thorold Writer’s Forum, Thorold Public Library, https://www.facebook.com/thoroldpubliclibrary/timeline/where I was honored to be guest author and speaker. I must say it was a lovely gathering, intimate, and unique in the way of a small circle of friends, where each had a chance to ask me assorted questions whose answers were not rushed. I read Chapter 7: Introduction to Destruction, which I believe allows a good insight to Willow’s Walk without giving too much away. I was pleased to have done this venue, and I hope to one day return to this delightful circle of writers. Coverage of this event appeared in the February issue of Niagara Snapd. I apologize for not having coverage to show, perhaps Eleanor Lawrie, friend, and Niagara author of the delightful children’s series, The Complete Adventures of Shelby F. Squirrel & Friends, can be of assistance supplying the fore mentioned coverage.

Besides me, this engaging panel consisted of Toronto Harlequin Romance authors, Jennifier Hayward, and Stephanie London. I was pleased to be the first Independent Niagara romance author to be asked to join this informative panel, and though I was unfortunately not feeling the best, it was time well spent all around. The audience had the chance to listen to a reading by each author of their latest work, and to ask questions with regard to romance writing, why we choose to write romance, publishing of our work, and why we’ve chosen the path we have. It was an excellent opportunity for the audience to gain insight into both sides of the publishing coin, as well as the pros and cons that go along with it. I read the majority of Chapter 25: The Plot Thickens.

Willow and I were to appear at the Annual Ladies Day Event again held at Saint David’s Anglican Church located on Thorold Rd in Welland on February 6th, but I was under the weather, and had to withdraw. I look forward to next year’s event and catching up with the regulars that habit this exciting event.

The Niagara and surrounding area launch of Willow’s Walk continues, with my first upcoming book-signing of the novel at Seaway Mall COLES, on March 12th from 1- 4:30 pm. https://www.facebook.com/ColesSeaway/?fref=ts I will have limited copies, both in glossy and matte finish, so if you are in the area please drop by, have a chat, and get your personally signed copy of this extremely entertaining romantic drama.

On March 26th, Willow and I have been invited to R&B Novel Teas, 4400 Queen Street http://www.novelteas.ca/ in the old historic section of Niagara Falls, Ontario from 1-3 pm. I will be reading a selection from Willow, and signing limited copies. Looking forward to this, as well as meeting the reading patrons of old Niagara Falls. If you are in the area, I hope you can make it.

I’ve spoken many times of the importance of Press Releases, for they truly are a must for those hoping to gain exposure and recognition in any field, but especially in the field of independent writing and publishing. I am most fortunate to work with one of the best in the business, Mr. Don McCauley of http://www.freepublicitygroup.com/don/ who has been my marketing rep and publicist since August of 2011. Please take this provided link to this month’s Release. http://bit.ly/1Oskjvn

Newsletters are an excellent way to not only keep people in the know with regard to a writer and author’s monthly activities, they are also an important bridge to those who continue to follow the work, and also for those who are considering the work, so I thank each and every one of you who continue to support me in my endeavors. However, should you wish to be removed from my mailing list, please contact me via email through my official website www.rusty-blackwood.com and your name will be removed. But I do hope you won’t take me up on this.

As another month grows close to its end, I hope you will take the time to check out my work, as well as all your local authors, and support us. I know through my own experience how extremely important this is; not only purchase of the work, but review of it, spreading the word about it, and letting the names be known. Remember, the names that are now household words where once unknown, that is until someone took the time and chance to take notice of what was before them. You will find yourself delightfully surprised if you do. Support your local talents, in all the Arts!

Cheers!

Rusty B.
