I loved The Perils of Autumn: Return to Autumn by Rusty Blackwood and once again spending time with my friends at the Landon Lawns Stables. Cyril and Autumn are the owners of the stable and immediately pull you right into their lives. Also living at the very prestigious horse farm is Agnes, the long-time friend, and housekeeper who is always there when needed. William and Manfred are also old-time friends, and really considered part of the family. The two keep the horses and stables running in perfect harmony and order. The thorn in everyone’s side is Duff, the winning jockey, thinking he is better than the rest and everyone is out to get him but he is usually the cause of the trouble. When William and Manfred find out secrets about Duff that he would like to keep in his past, it gets ugly. The Perils of Autumn begins in the 1970s and we travel through the years to the early 2000s, sharing the good, the bad, the sad, and the happy.

I felt the love that Cyril and Autumn had for each other and their two young children; the love they gave each special horse, the caring for their friends, and doing whatever was necessary for each one of them. This book is a winner and I think it would be an award-winning TV series or movie (I can even imagine the cast). I cannot say enough good things about The Perils of Autumn: Return to Autumn. I stayed up late and ignored my daytime chores to be in the stables with my friends. I strongly urge you to put this on the very top of your reading list; it will not disappoint. This book is so well written by Rusty Blackwood; her descriptions, her emotions, and her knowledge of the subject are unbeatable. Again, all I can say is that this is a must-read – you will be glad you did.

The Perils of Autumn: Return to Autumn by Rusty Blackwood is book two in the contemporary suspense series that follows the life of a woman of thirty named Autumn Leeves-Landon and her significantly older husband, Cyril Landon. The couple has now been married for a handful of years and has a young daughter named Abigail. The family lives on a vast estate where Landon Manor is situated, and the tradition of raising thoroughbreds continues, although not without the difficulties that formulate the book’s primary plot and tie into its subplots, which are all exceptionally well executed. When it comes to the Landon Lawns’ race jockey named Duff Taylor, all bets are off, both literally and figuratively speaking.

I admit that going into The Perils of Autumn unsettled me as a result of the relationship between Autumn and Cyril, her husband who was over twice her age. However, the story is wonderfully written. Whereas the previous book in the series homed in on the relationship between the now-married pair, this installment digs deeper into the running of the estate, the business of thoroughbreds and racing, and some truly spectacular suspense that kicks the tension factor up several notches. My favorite character who Rusty Blackwood has turned into flesh and blood is the Landons’ devoted housekeeper Agnes, who I wish would let me take up her tray for a bit so she could rest. Discussions of a potential sibling for Abby, whether intended or by happenstance, do circle the wagons back into relationship territory. This is a series that will likely appeal to older readers and has all of the right components for a Hallmark movie. Recommended.

The book Return to Autumn: Part 1, written by Rusty Blackwood, is a compelling tale that grabbed my interest right away. The Meadows of Kentucky are the setting for the story.

The action happens in 1976. On February 24, 1972, Autumn Rose Leeves-Landon, now 30 years old, suffered the sudden deaths of her mother and best friend Abigail. Before Autumn gave birth to her daughter, whom she named Abby Rose Alice, it happened a month earlier. She had wanted her daughter to carry both her own name and the name of her grandmother in order to honor her husband’s first wife of 25 years, who had been well-respected and for whom Autumn had grown to have a great deal of admiration.

Abby, who was 4 years old, was a determined, energetic, intellectual child with blonde ringlets and blue eyes. Her smile could melt the coldest heart.

The moment they first met one another, Cyril and Autumn were attracted to one another. Autumn and Cyril were married following the loss of Cyril’s wife, and they are now the parents of their small children. Agnes, Cyril’s housekeeper buddy, is always there for him.

Manfred Montgomery and William Brown were aware that Duff was keeping their lord in the dark. Sadly, they lacked compelling evidence to support their case against him. They need evidence before they can tell Cyril they are worried. To learn more about Duff’s secret, read this account.

Amazing chemistry exists between Autumn and Cyril. I cherished their partnership. A cinematic adaptation of this tale would be fantastic. I wholeheartedly urge my fellow readers to read this book. The narration flows well and is effective. This book’s readers would adore every page. I like how the author’s writing style makes it simple for readers to follow the plot.

This is the second part of the series and it’s more engaging and adventurous. The story is set up in 1976 and revolves around Autumn Rose Leeves who lost her mother and her best friend before she gave birth to her daughter, Abby. She was much respected and honoured lady who did work for the welfare of the citizens in her area around.

The novel further delves into the ongoing challenges at the Thoroughbred stables, where head groom and trainer, Manfred Montgomery, and stable foreman, William Brown, who are determined to uncover the truth about Duff Taylor, the enigmatic jockey with a mysterious racing incident in his past. As the plot unfolds, secrets begin to unravel, keeping readers on the edge of their seats.

The language is simple and easy to understand, this novel can be read as standalone. The author has beautifully created an immense tension and mysterious scenes. The climax wasn’t predictable, it left a shady impact on the readers to read the last part which would definitely be more exciting and engaging. The characters are well narrated and developed. The cover is beautiful with a captivating title. This book should be read by all the readers who love reading romantic fiction dramas.

Abby, age 4, was a determined, vivacious, smart, blue-eyed kid with blonde ringlets, and her smile could warm even the hardest heart. Both Landon Lawns Stables and The Meadows in general have undergone significant renovation during the past four years. Autumn had pushed hard to get the much-needed medical assistance in the area, but she had run against barriers and dead ends.

The pacing of the entire plot is excellent. The narrative is clear and vivid, and the prose is captivating from beginning to end. The words utilized are clear and lucid.
Overall, I had a great reading experience and I appreciate the author for such an amazing work. Writing style is quite professional, and the author is a master at holding readers’ attention throughout the plot without boring them. Rusty Blackwood had a good thoughtful mind and also write series of books.
