Can you believe this incredible heat of late! Why a mere two weeks ago there were snow flurries. It seems the four seasons we once enjoyed have, for some time now, become two, winter, and summer, no gradual changing to either, and I miss that. I suppose it’s like that in many ways, feast or famine, but don’t you agree it would be nice to taste the flavors in between?
On a grand and most wonderful note, I am proud to announce the safe arrival of my very first great grand child, a boy, Patrick Lewis Doan, born 7:59 am on May 28, 2016. What a precious little fellow he is, and I welcome him with open arms! I can’t think of any better way to end the month of May!

When I wrote my April newsletter a few days before the end of the month, I had not as yet done a few events that were happening before the months’ end. The first was a taping on April 25th for Cogeco Niagara’s local information program, ‘What’s New with Carrie Zeffiro,’ at Cogeco’s Niagara Falls studio on McLeod Rd. It was an enjoyable experience consisting of LIGHTS – CAMERA – ACTION!!! But seriously, Carrie Zeffiro is a most competent host, and one who is well informed with regard to her guests. Because this program is primarily for Niagara subscribers of Cogeco, it is not available for public viewing in general, all I can offer is this programming pic:
On April 29th I was a guest on the popular Internet TV show, ‘The Joe Show Live’. This was so much fun to do, as Port Colborne’s celebrated son, Radio & Television personality, Joe Crawford, is one of Niagara’s top names in the entertainment field. Winner of the 2015 Heritage Award for Best Talk Show Host & Entertainer, Joe continues to prove why that is, as his list of interviewed celebrated names are most impressive, and continues to grow. We discussed my newly released, 5-star award winning, romantic fiction drama, ‘Willow’s Walk’, as well as my many experiences as an indie author in the field of writing. On April 30th, I took part in ‘Authors for Indies Day’, an international celebration by both indie and standard published authors who celebrate the indie bookstores throughout North America who carry their work. In Niagara, it was held at R&B Novel Teas in Niagara Falls, Ontario with readings beginning at 10 am until 4 pm, with music provided by local musicians beginning at 5. May 14th found my riveting, 4-star romantic fiction drama, ‘Passions in Paris: Revelations of a Lost Diary’, and my newly released, 5-star-award-winning romantic fiction drama, ‘Willow’s Walk’, at the west end of the Niagara peninsula at Ancaster Chapters. What a bustling and huge bookstore this is. Please take this link for a bit of coverage: https://www.facebook.com/writerrusty/photos/?tab=album&album_id=10154317220077033

May 28th found ‘Willow’s Walk’ and I in Welland, Ontario at Seaway Mall Coles. It’s always nice to return to this busy Mall and its only bookstore. I’ve appeared here a number of times over the years with different titles I’ve written, and each time I come, it is always time well spent. It’s been a long, difficult road for me since the passing of my mother last September 18th, with very little – if any – creative work to speak of, but I am most pleased to announce the return of my muse, and the official beginning to my next romantic fiction drama, ‘The Perils of Autumn’, which is set in 1980 on a thoroughbred racing stable in the gorgeous bluegrass hills of Kentucky, and centers around the lives of Autumn Leeves-Landon, her much older husband Cyril, and Duff Harris, a well-renowned jockey with a secret past. Watch for updates as the novel progresses.

June is literary month throughout the Niagara area, with assorted venues and outlets opening their doors to some of Niagara’s most creative writers, authors, poets, and musicians. I am only doing one event this year, and that will be on June 16th at Fine Grind Café on James Street in downtown St. Catharines, beginning at 7 pm. I share the evenings’ roster with two of Niagara’s finest authors.

As yet another month draws to a close, may I remind those who enjoy the written word, whether it is poetry, an intriguing who-done-it, a stimulating romance, intense thriller, gut-wrenching horror, or an informative historical bio, please support those whose imaginative minds create the characters and stories that are the bases for the books you enjoy. The authors that have become household names were once unknown writers struggling to get their work known; might I remind you that the same applies to your LOCAL authors in the same manner. It is imperative that you take the time to check out the latest works being offered by some extremely talented writers/authors in your own area. The same applies to your local musicians, artists, or anyone in the creative world of the Arts.
I look forward to a new month, and I wish each of you all the best. Cheers!
R.B.
