Yes, this poem captures the very foundation of the truth. People are very quick to judge without first looking at themselves. A lot of society is just stuck in the media. It seems people cannot move past the media. We stay stuck on a story (that sometimes we shouldn’t stay stuck on) for what seems like forever, and we give a lot of attention to many things that don’t deserve it. Rusty, Beatiful poem that captured my heart. Though discharged back in 1973, my heart is still lost at sea… I have a power spot that is at Hatteras Point on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Diamond Shoals is just off the point, and the tumoltuous waters there sing the tales of sailors past. The energy of that place is empowering. Dear Rusty, I am going away for the weekend and am busy packing, but when I return I hope to read more of your poetry. If you read my bio, you will see that I have written about a variety of subjects and thousands of my stories have been published, mostly in magazines and newspapers, including The New York Times. However, my favorites were always feature stories. Lillith’s name was actually Kitty and I wrote this poem the day before I met her, back in 1980. The story I wrote for the newspaper was nothing like this poem; it was mostly about Kitty’s life as a witch, her practices, the coven, etc. However, I did begin the story with “Nobody knocked at her door on Halloween.” Kitty and I had a great deal to talk about and, as it turned out, we became good friends. Rusty, I love this poem, Arrrgh!!! I have entered my second pirate stage of my life, as I have felt the spirit of adventure calling me. A couple of weeks ago while getting a couple of new tattoos, I got my first piercings. Of course, the inner pirate came out with a pair of loops in my ears, nothing huge, (14 gauge) but, shiver me timbers, I felt so free…(silly, I know) A bit of Jack Sparrow lives within me, no matter how good I may pretend to be sometimes, the scallywag lives in my inner heart. A fun loving, rum sipping, happy go lucky scallywag with a nice smile. I think I now needs me a parrot fer me shoulder… sorry for the tangent, but your fun poem took me away on the fantasy of the high seas. (I really did just get my ears pierced though, and when asked why, I always say, “my inner pirate is coming out.” I get some unusual looks, but some knowing smiles as well. Rusty, I always think of myself as a simple writer, writing poems for myself and a very small target audience. When a writer of your caliber praises me, I am tongue tied, yet honored and blessed.
