Rusty Presents Her November Newsletter 2019 …

November Greetings Everyone & Welcome to the Newest Names on My Mailing List!

We are at the end of another month; one month to go before the end of the year! Hard to believe yet believe we must. Where does it go? If anyone has the answer I’d truly like to know, but that is a question that has never found an answer nor will it ever. I believe the main thing is we all try and enjoy the time as much as we can, however that may be.

This has been a busy month for me, no public events in my area as I do not book anything from November to March, but that doesn’t stop online events. When one is an independent author, online activities are a must, and a must that requires constant attention.

Beginning on November 18th through to the 22nd, The Perils of Autumn and me were on virtual Blog Tour, this time a Book Blast Tour through the creative ladies at Goddess Fish Promotions and sponsored by Lyon Media Literary Services. Autumn and I were featured daily on numerous Blogs each day. Do take this secure link to the daily schedule to view the assorted Blogs for each day: http://goddessfishpromotions.blogspot.com/2019/10/book-blast-perils-of-autumn-by-rusty.html

As an author, and like many authors do, I occasionally enter my latest title into competition, which I did with The Perils of Autumn, twice in fact since it was released at the end of January of this year. Both contests were based in Los Angeles, California, both exceptionally large competitions; the first being the Annual International Book Awards competition, and the second, the 16th American Book Fest – Best Book Awards and I am very pleased to announce that my Readers Favorite Books 5-star award winning The Perils of Autumn was chosen one of six Finalists in Romance for 2019 in both competitions. You never know how well your work will fair unless you try. I am most proud of The Perils of Autumn, not simply because it has won awards, but because it tells a wonderful story that if it were not fiction, it would be one that I would truly love to live within.

Work is progressing along on the follow-up to Perils of Autumn, titled Return to Autumn. This follow-up continues the story begun in Perils of Autumn through to its end. I hope readers, especially those who have read The Perils of Autumn, will anticipate returning to Landon Lawns Stables, Autumn, Cyril, Abby, Agnes, William, Manfred and Duff along with a few new characters in Return to Autumn. The beautiful equines that you got to know in The Perils of Autumn also return, and with them a few new beauties. In the interim, please enjoy a short excerpt from Chapter 2: Sullivan

Two hours had passed by the time the Landon family arrived at the main stables. Cyril, the elegant birthday boy he was, wore his grey tweed riding habit over a starched, high-collared, white shirt sporting French cuffs reaching well beyond each wrist-line of the English tweed. Proudly displayed within each cuff was an elegant sterling cuff-link sporting the number 60, that of which Abigail Leeves had gifted him for his birthday five years earlier. He adored them and made it a point to wear them whenever he attended a stylish event. Today was special, not merely because it was his birthday, but because of the affectionate surprise he had waiting for his daughter who was now clad in a pink, western-styled tutu set with her named embroidered in gold sequins across the bodice. He had contemplated this day for what felt a lifetime and could not wait to see Abby’s expression when the surprise was finally revealed.

Autumn was attired in the burgundy and grey Victorian riding habit with matching black top hat that Cyril had given her just prior to announcing their intent to marry. She often thought of this, as well as the unsavory reaction it had garnered from a few people, namely Agnes, Dr. Elliot Boxford, and her mother, whose reaction had bothered her the most, yet in the end had finally come to accept it. You weren’t wrong in doing so, Momma, Autumn thought as a loving warmth spread throughout her. Whenever she felt this sensation, she wondered if it was her mother’s spirit somehow touching her, soothing her; always securing the immense love that had not died that fateful February day.

Cyril noticed his wife’s placid demeanor, and he playfully challenged, “Penny for your thoughts, my beauty?”

Autumn acknowledged his loving gesture, and soulfully replied, “You always know when I’m thinking of Momma, don’t you? Guess that’s only normal whenever I see those elegant cufflinks. I’m so glad you continue to wear them, and in doing so you continue to honor her memory.”

“Miss Autumn, I do not require wearing these cuff-links – as exquisite as they are – to honor your mother’s memory. I shall never forget her, nor shall I forget the joy she brought into my life. After-all, without her, there would not have been you. I just wish we could have had more time.”

Gently nodding her head, Autumn admitted, “Yes. Time is not forever, even though one would give so much to be able to secure it. That is why it’s so important to express feelings for those you love; while you still can.”

“Tis true, darling, in every sense of the word. I am most grateful to share our special moments together, as we did this morning. That was lovely, and though I know how uncomfortable it is for you at times, I am always appreciative of the way you make me feel. I do hope that discomfort will ease with time.”

“It’s been four years, Cyril. I would think if it was to grow easier it would have done so long ago. It’s no-one’s fault, it’s just the way it is. Abby’s difficult delivery could not have been foreseen; even if it was possible to have known, I still would have conceived her. Besides, the medical profession is always coming up with new techniques; maybe one of these times I may be able to have much of the scar tissue removed. Along with getting it on with you, it might help in other areas.”

A slight blush touched Cyril’s rugged face, enticing his blue eyes to dance. He remained quiet for a few moments, yet his expression spoke volumes. Finally, he asked, “Are you excited about Abby’s awaiting surprise? I know you were not overly pleased with my decision.”

Autumn’s crimson lips pursed; she was not pleased with her husband’s choice, yet she realized how much it meant to him. Taking a deep breath, she replied, “Excited is not the word I would have chosen, but if you truly believe you have made the right choice, then I will support it – provided she is never permitted to engage on her own – at least for quite a few more years.

Cyril acknowledged her reply, and though he thought his daughter old enough to venture into the world he so loved, he would make it a point to adhere to his wife’s wishes.

During the conversation taking place between her parents, Abby’s attention had been consumed watching Manfred Montgomery, assisted by two stable hands putting a huge bay-hued horse through its paces around the exercise ring. The little girl’s eyes were mesmerized, glued to the action playing out before her, so much so she darted into the ring, and straight towards the huge stallion.

Her parents could hardly believe what they were witnessing, but before they could utter a sound, William’s voice could be heard, loudly calling, “Miss Abby! Look over here towards your Uncle Willy! See what I have for yaw!”

Autumn and Cyril were certain they had each swallowed their heart, but upon seeing William approaching their daughter, their stiff bodies fell against each other in relief before proceeding to join what was taking place before them.

The little girl could not believe her enlarged eyes. Her Uncle Willy moved slowly towards her, the reins of the coveted red leather bridle in his hands along with a tiny black riding helmet, as he announced, “Miss Abby Landon, meet your new friend, Sullivan. He has come to live with us here at the stables, and I think he’s going to become your very best friend. Do you like him?”

I hope you enjoyed this brief read, and do check my official website https://rusty-blackwood.com for updates and further info. If all goes as planned, Return to Autumn should enjoy a mid to late spring release. Fingers crossed!
