The bewitching month of October is almost gone! It is my most favorite month of the year, not just because I was born in October, but because of the energy it brings, and the heart-touching essence of those who have gone before and whom can again be near. The leaves are turning gorgeous hues of russet reds, lemon yellows, burnt orange and chocolate browns. What a feast for the eyes to behold. The air is crisp and filled with stirring scents of awe and wonder. I love it all, and though I can’t say as I care for what is to come as far as weather is concerned, October still resonates among my favorite things; and now on with the news of October …

Earlier this month, on the 7th to be exact, I joined Port Coloborne award-winning entertainer, comedian, and interviewer extraordinaire, Joe Crawford, in his studio kitchen to tape a segment of his Fun Food Friday. Because it was October, the program was to be part of his Halloween specials airing the week leading up to Halloween. It was a fun-time all around; we made pumpkin cookies with cream cheese drizzle icing and while we were preparing this, Joe interviewed me with regard to the re-release of my 5–star romantic fiction drama, Willow’s Walk from which I also did a short reading. All round a great segment which aired October 29th at 4 PM at http://revealingtalkradio.com/. For those who missed it, you may still listen by going to Joe’s Soundcloud at: https://soundcloud.com/thejoeshowlive and clicking on the October 29th Halloween episode with me, Rusty Blackwood. Each month I talk about the importance of Press Releases, and it is a topic that I never tire of discussing. When you are an independent author, getting the word out about your work can be very difficult, sometimes it feels impossible, but if you are fortunate to secure the expertise of a superb marketing representative & publicist with established connections in the field, you are most fortunate, as am I, as I have the privilege to work with one of the best, Don McCauley, of the Free Publicity Focus Group. Please take this link for this month’s informative Release: http://www.freepublicitygroup.com/news/release-rusty-blackwood-romantic-fiction-willows-walk-oct2016/

Work slowly progresses on my newest romance drama, The Perils of Autumn, an intense story set primarily in 1980 outside Lexington Kentucky, on an established equestrian farm named Landon Lawns Stables, and centers around the lives of the three main characters, English equestrian Cyril Landon, licensed practical nurse Autumn Leeves-Landon, and a flamboyant English jockey by the name of Duff Harris. Duff has a secret, one that he is willing to go to any length to protect, but will he succeed, and what will it mean to Landon Lawns Stables if he does?

Halloween, that most spookiest day and night, is soon to be upon us. Please take special attention while driving, as the little spooks, witches, and goblins will be about, flitting to and fro – often before you know it – so please DRIVE WITH CAUTION.

In keeping with the season, a little treat for you:

‘Halloween Night’

Halloween has come once more
With happy children at the door,
As witches, ghosts, and goblins too
Take flight in skies of darkest blue.

The trees stand bare, their job is done
And now it’s time to have some fun,
As costumed children run beneath
Leaves swirl, and crunch beneath their feet.

The sky grows black as bats fly free,
And spiders spin their webs with glee
In hopes that soon a tasty treat
Entwines itself, and tastes so sweet.

Ghosts, and demons praise the season,
Dancing, singing, spirits ringing,
While shadows lurk in corners where
You dare to tread, nor linger there.

Candles burn with flickering wicks
While creatures crawl in fog so thick,
They stare, and lurk, and make a wish
That you’ll come near with eyes that peer.

Winds moan low, and wolves may howl,
They watch whatever’s on the prowl,
Their amber eyes stare with intent
They do not smile, nor ere relent.

Jack-lanterns burn their fire bright
Some faces happy, some with fright,
They light the path for those who dare
To venture forth, without a care.

Still laugh, and play, it ’tis the season
To enjoy without a reason,
As children trick for treats delight,
Have fun, and smile, it’s Halloween night!

~ Halloween, to me, is a wondrous time
of year, and though the night is for
children to act out their imagination,
the night is  filled with magik beyond
belief for those who are truly connected
with those who have gone before. R.B. ~

As another month leaves us and we move into November, let us remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in order that we might enjoy freedom, prosperity, and safety. Let their lives be not given in vain. Be kind to your fellow man, remember those less fortunate, and let us all strive for a better tomorrow.

As I close, I ask as always, that you support your local authors, and all your local talent in the Arts!

Cheers!

Rusty B.
