As a romantic fiction writer and novelist who truly cares about the structure and politically correctness of the work I put before the public’s eye, I cannot, for the life of me, understand why the nonsense of which this post is about, continues to be given the limelight in which it does. WAIT! I DO KNOW! MONEY, MONEY, and MORE MONEY! The ill-gotten money of an egotistical and manipulative marketing genius who has the ostentation to consider themselves a writer, much less author, AND the greed of the publishing House that long-ago jumped on board as to not lose-out on monetary gain from something that they otherwise would have scoffed at. If she had submitted her ill-scribbled manuscript under normal circumstances, it would have never seen the light of day, much less hit the presses as the biggest find of the decade where the entire publishing field ends up flouting praise by bestowing ‘Author of the Year’ upon her. Now she carries it on with her latest ‘installment’. What … a … crock!
If you, as yet haven’t figured out who I’m speaking about, much less the reason for my written disgust, take this link and have a read. When you’ve finished, kindly return to this entry as I have not yet finished.
Before I continue on, I would like to halt the colorful innuendos of, ‘sour grapes, jealousy, and resentment’ on my part, because to many that is exactly what it must sound like, but contrary to this, it is none of the three adjectives above but rather blatant disgust. One might even use humiliation or ill-representation of those who write and publish ‘romance’. As I’ve clarified before, the genres of Romance and Erotica are entirely two different genres. They are both highly respected in their own right, as well they should be, for the eclectic topics in which a writer writes about are as eclectic as their readers. What I took issue with awhile back in my post ‘Romantic Fiction – Or Altered Misconception Of It – Romantic Fiction Author Rusty Blackwood Repeats Her Views’- and I still take issue – is how well they are written, the correctness of the topic they are speaking about, the way in which they are marketed, and the way in which it reflects on a genre it has nothing to do with.
In regard to the work of E L James, the ONLY area that I will give credit, is in her well planned and executed marketing strategies. She is as calculating in this field as she is wrongly praised for her ability to write. As much as those of us who try our best to produce quality work within the literary guidelines set down, whether it be Romantic Fiction, Erotica, or countless other genres, fictitious, or otherwise, then this entire world of writing is nothing more than a superficial lark, especially if the likes of 50 Shades of Grey and its power-hungry author are taken seriously, much less continue to receive the public’s misplaced adulation.
