October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, shinning light on a negative aspect of life that unfortunately continues to flourish, affecting countless lives, and putting an end to many. It does not care what age it strikes, nor is it selective in color or race. It strikes men, and children, too, but through constant awareness, and ongoing research this deadly killer is starting to meet its match, and it will only be a matter of time before it is completely beaten. I have been a member of the Ontario Breast Screening Program for many years, and I feel it is imperative that women, 50 and over be checked annually. Educate yourself! Know the signs! Learn how to thoroughly check your breasts, do a complete check each month, and be sure to follow up on any irregularities you might find! Most importantly, have yearly professional checkups. Breast cancer can be beaten! Be sure, be healthy, and be safe!
